Dr. Sue ElHessen
Dr.
Sue ElHesson is the current Board President of Southern California
Rehabilitation Services Independent Living Center, former ADA Coordinator
for the City of Santa Monica, has hosted a local cable television program
entitled "Disabled Views and Views." Dr. Sue has also
been a Psychology Instructor and a WorkAbility IV Coordinator at CSU,
Long Beach, and an ADA Trainer and Consultant. She served as a Peer
Reviewer for the U.S. Department of Education; National Institute
on Disability and Rehabilitation Research; and the Office of Special
Education and Rehabilitative Services for evaluation of discretionary
grant applications. In addition to being appointed by the Mayor of
Long Beach to serve on the Citizen Advisory Commission on Disability,
she also served as the Chair of Employment. As a national trainer,
she has been a guest speaker on a number of television programs, such
as "The
Montel Williams Show."
In her travels, Dr. Sue conducts workshops underwriting topics covering everything from Diversity Training to Career Planning and more. In 1997, she was awarded the Independent Living Award from the Disabled Resources Center in Long Beach, and was recognized by Congressional and Senate Proclamations for service to people. In addition, she volunteers her time to support people with disabilities in the Middle East through fundraising activities and grant writing. At age three, while in Lebanon, she contracted polio. As an adult with post polio, she continues to excel regardless of her physical limitations.
